QUITO, June 26, 2022 (AFP) – Ecuador’s President Guillermo Lasso lifted on Saturday the state of emergency that was being enforced in the six provinces most affected by Indigenous protests against his government, according to a decree issued by the presidential headquarters.
The president ordered “the termination of the state of emergency due to serious internal commotion in the provinces of Chimborazo, Tungurahua, Cotopaxi, Pichincha, Pastaza and Imbabura,” according to the document, which came after 13 days of unrest and as Lasso was facing a no-confidence hearing in the National Assembly.
